Adjustment of Status
Adjustment of Status is the process that allows certain non-U.S. citizens already living in the United States to apply for lawful permanent residence (a green card) without having to return to their home country for consular processing.
Through this process, eligible applicants can remain in the U.S. while their case is pending, and in many cases, also apply for work authorization and travel permission during that time.
Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens (spouses, parents, unmarried children under 21)
Beneficiaries of approved family or employment petitions with current visa availability
Refugees or asylees
Certain other categories provided by law
Remain in the U.S. while your green card application is processed
Ability to apply for work permit (EAD) and advance parole (travel document)
Direct path to permanent residence and, eventually, U.S. citizenship
⚖️ At Tunyan Law, APC, we guide our clients through every step of the Adjustment of Status process — from preparing the I-485 application to gathering evidence and attending the USCIS interview.
